Friday, the 6th of July was our last day in Nanchung. We hung out at the hotel in the morning. The city isn't the easiest to navigate with cars, motor bikes, and bike traffic, including traveling the wrong way - you have to make sure you look both ways! Both Brett and Elise caught a mid-morning nap.
We then went to the local market once more before packing and leaving for the Nanchung airport. As we were dining on our delicious McDonald's ice cream cones (taste just like the ones back at home), we were amused to watch this guy mount a big screen TV (in box) onto his moped. I guess you could say it was a sort of pick-up truck in China. We thought for sure it would fall....but he drove off with it balanced!
We also received Elise's Chinese passport which we will use to get her United States Visa. Her picture is actually quite cute! We left for the airport at 3 pm. The airport is relatively new. Very spacious and clean. We were told it's not that active.
Unfortunately our flight from Nanchung to Guangzhou was delayed to depart 1.5 hours. Keeping in mind we arrived at the airport more than 2 hours before the original flight time, it was quite long for all the families. The 5 families we met in Nanchang were all on the the same flight.
In our time of boredome, Brett took a picture of a "squatty potty." I have no idea of what is it called...but by the name of it, I'm sure you can figure out how to use it.
Once we finally boarded the flight, we found the cabin to be quite warm. The weather here is VERY hot...in the mid to high 90s with high humidity. We kept waiting for the AC to be turned on. Finally we learned the plane we waited so long for had a non-functioning AC (when on the ground). Luckily the safety card was laminated....and it became converted into a fan. Poor Elise was so hot. Miraculously, she did GREAT on the 1 hour 20 minute flight. No crying. Very happy as you can see below.
We arrived late into Guangzhou. We waited to meet the 2 other families from FTIA coming from other provinces. Unfortunately, one of the families departed early but we were very happy to meet our friend Gina and her new 5 year old daughter Stella.
We arrived at the China Hotel (a Marriott property) in Guangzhou late as well. We are very fortunate to have adjoining rooms so the kids have a side and we have a side. The extra room is so helpful , especially with a baby who needs to take a nap. The hotel is quite nice...more like a JW Marriott style at home. We didn't get lights out til almost midnight China time....and paid for it with Elisa waking up at 2 am.
Elise is just so cute (of course so is Regan and Brett). You should get a picture with all the kids that were adopted and their families. Have fun the last couple of days!
ReplyDeleteElise just gets more adorable with every picture! Can't wait to hold her.
