Monday, July 2nd - Adoption Registration & Notarization

Monday, July 2nd was a very busy day.  Early this morning, Derek and Brett went with our guide Mary to the bank to exchange currency for the adoption processing.  The short 3-minute walk to the Bank of China proved to be a great adventure.  Mary said, "Stay close to me" and boy did we.  The streets of China are filled with buses, cars, mopeds, bicycles and pedesterians.  The Chinese clearly have never heard the phrase, "Pedesterians have the right of way."  One puts his/her life on the line just trying to cross the street in China.  Pedesterians in China do not use cross-walks, but rather cross anywhere they want while weaving in and out of moving traffic.  It is also not uncommon to see cars and mopeds drive the wrong way on a one-way street.  And the Chinese love their horns.

Elise woke up in a great mood and was happy all day long as she was being dragged from place to place for adoption processing.  First, we went to the Adoption Registration Processing center to sign adoption paperwork, take photos and have fingerprints taken.  Elise was a great sport in the 95 degree heat with very sub-par air conditioning.  We also completed adoption processing at the police station and the Notary Office.

Elise is bringing much joy to our lives.  She just smiled and laughed all day long.  She is very ticklish and enjoyed playing on the beds.  She can roll over easily in either direction and may be crawling before we leave China.  She likes "Peek-a-boo" and laughs when her cheeks are kissed.  Regan and Brett are being excellent older siblings.  She is such a blessing.

Elise shortly after waking up on Monday, the 2nd.

Playing with Regan on the bed.

Laughing at lunch.  She is so tiny she needs two pillows to prop her up in the highchair.
She must of had so much fun that she needed a quick lunch nap while still holding her toys

In a deep sleep in the restaurant

Playing with Daddy.  Elise is such a special child and we are very fortunate to have her in our lives.
